I had just finished a Tom Rush Album at CBS in 1969 and the producer of that album called me and said he just signed a new artist and was getting 3 points for the production of it. He said he wanted me to engineer it and offered me 1 of those 3 points. Long story short, I brought him to the Record Plant where we struck up a deal with the owner for studio time for the album. The producer did the album there but without me. The album was American Pie and the artist was Don McLean. The producer bought 3 houses and a studio from continuous royalties from those three points. He called me again after the album where he claimed he was so stoned he could not remember how he forgot to call me. He asked me if I cared to do a session with Don. This was one of the songs I engineered post AP.
