Is this version here actually the 1931 session, or perhaps a later take? His voice register has dropped a bit, as it does when we get older. And, apart from the exceptionally wide range in tones that the engineers at Okeh records were able to capture very early, the "whispers" and breath sounds captured in this recording belie a much later recording date.

Love it...His voice alone was like a musical instrument, and his uke playing superb. Yet despite selling up to 80 million records Cliff Edwards is almost forgotten ..Very Sad.

I love this version of if I had you. The phrasing, the emotion he conveys in this song, is sheer perfection. His voice got a bit deeper as he aged, but he used it to the best advantage here. He was just so talented, he even outcroons Crosby. Thanks so much for sharing it.
