check out his art - do a google search for Don Van Vliet art. He was exhibited at famous museums like the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco. His art was probably more respected than his music, at least in terms of the price it brought and the art world giving him respect. He never got the respect nor success he deserved in rock which is why he finally quit I believe.
