Received my DJ in 1967 after only 2 months in. Time has healed my wounds over it. I realized we were both too young and that I should have given her the freedom to explore life. When I return she came to me and said she was sorry, but the truth was I never felt the same about us. Tragic circumstances followed. She died in car accident just over a month after my ets out of service being with her friends out on the night. Pain of knowing she had a short life (19) still haunts me today. She was a nice teenage girl who had so much to live for.

Sure reminds me of a girl by the name of Sue Condry of Yuma AZ. Went into the Marine Corps and she could have cared less. I sure loved her and wanted someone to come home to. By luck and prayer I made it home but she was nowhere to be found. Semper Fi!

I guess I was lucky. When I went to the Nam in 1968, I had no special girl friend so I never experienced the agony of receiving a "Dear John" letter. My heart goes out to my brothers who did receive one. I can only assume that some of the female service members also received a "Dear Jane" letter. I apologize for the jerks that sent them.
